I just compared Catsxp and Supermium, two browsers, that can still run under Windows 7:
Catsxp:
+ customizable keyboard shortcuts
+ mouse gestures
+ ad blocker
+ latest Chromium version
- cannot run DRM protected content (Widevine), even if the module is installed
- after clicking an "mailto:" link, leading to an external Windows application, it always displays a warning popup, which cannot be disabled
- exact device geolocation is not working under Win7
Supermium:
+ can play DRM content
+ can provide exact device geolocation on Win7
+ opens mailto: links directly, without any warning popup
- no possibility to modify the built-in keyboard shortcuts
- no mouse gestures
- no ad blocker
- outdated Chromium version
If the creator of Catsxp reads this, I would like to ask him:
Why is it not possible to add support of DRM, device location, and also disable the warning popup after clicking mailto links?
Supermium is very similar to Catsxp, also based on beta Chromium builds, so these features should work in both of then.
In a such case, Catsxp would be the best.

Re: Comparison: Catsxp and Supermium
Catsxp is a downstream fork of Brave. Supermium is pure Chromium. You are comparing apples with oranges. Catsxp should be compared to Brave!

Re: Comparison: Catsxp and Supermium
Supermium is not outdated. It's tracking the stable (LTS) branch of Chromium. Catsxp is always chasing the latest bits. It's never stable. Imagine you are running the CI build of Brave!

Re: Comparison: Catsxp and Supermium
Btw, you missed Thorium legacy. It can run on Windows 7, too.
Re: Comparison: Catsxp and Supermium
Even Brave should support both DRM video playback and exact geolocation. Why is Catsxp not supporting these?
Personally, I hate most the warning popup when composing mail in Thunderbird from a website mailto link.
I did not try the Thorium yet, so I cannot say if it is better or not... maybe later.

1.opens mailto: links directly, without any warning popup?
Why do cancel this prompt?
Let others directly call this function in the background to send important information to the specified email ?
This is an important means of protecting one's important information!
2.can play DRM content?
An L3 certificate authorized by Goolg is required to use this function properly, unless this layer of protection setting is exploded
3.can provide exact device geolocation on Win7?
In the Win7 system, there is no magnetic API interface. How can I call it?

I guess they are falling back to guess the location from the IP address but I'm not sure.catsxp 写了: 2024年 5月 11日 20:15 3.can provide exact device geolocation on Win7?

Re: Comparison: Catsxp and Supermium
It seems on Chromium stable is not the same thing as LTS. I might get it wrong. The Supermium developer is right to stick with the LTS tags of Chromium (currently 122, Chromium 124 is stable but not yet on the LTS tags). Chromium 124 and later are extremely buggy. I'm rolling back to Catsxp 4.4.4 (which is the last version based on Chromium 123).
