But he refused to do anything, trying to blame Google for some obscure certificate issues. I don't see other Chrome-based browsers paying a single penny to Google. Firefox-based browsers don't, either. But they all have DRM/EME working.

Presents your browser as Chromium. The open source Chromium works fine. You are presenting your browser as something else. This is the reason why you need a new certificate for your browser. Fake your browser as Chromium. It's Chromium anyway.

p/s: Or fake your browser as Brave. Maybe it's easier. It's Brave anyway.
